SALIENT FEATURES
BRTS CORRIDOR

The proposed BRTS corridor between Hubli and Dharwad is 22.25 km long with the width of the cross sections ranging from 44 m to 35 m. The BRTS buses ply through a dedicated corridor from Hosur circle in Hubli to Jubliee circle in Dharwad. Beyond Hosur circle up to CBT, Hubli and beyond Jubilee circle up to CBT, Dharwad, the BRT buses ply along with the mixed traffic.

The width of the road which includes the BRT corridor, mixed traffic lanes, foot paths etc is as follows:
Hosur circle, Hubli to Naveen Hotel: 35m
Naveen Hotel to Gandhinagar cross: 44m
Gandhinagar cross to Jubliee circle: 35m

The trunk corridor includes segregated bus ways, controlled bus stations, physical and fare integration with BRT feeder, off-board ticketing through smart cards and tokens, and high quality buses (standard as well as articulated). The corridor is designed for operating regular and express services. The BRT corridor consist of 2 lanes for BRTS buses on either side of the median bus station facilitating overtaking lanes for express services. 4 vehicular Underpass are proposed to facilitate movement of traffic across BRTS corridor.

CENTRAL BUS LANES WITH MEDIAN BUS STOPS

The BRTS corridor is designed with central bus lanes, so as to minimize interference of traffic plying on the mixed traffic lanes.

CLOSED SYSTEM

In a closed system, BRT lane is restricted only for BRT buses. Average speed of BRT buses in a closed system is invariably higher than an open system. All buses have similar configuration, with same width & position of door and floor height. Junctions are easier to manage with fewer signal phases.

AUTOMATIC VEHICLE TRACKING SYSTEM

The buses running on the BRT corridor will be mounted with GPS devices to track its location. This helps in providing real time information to commuters. The Automated Vehicle Locator System (AVLS) shall primarily use GPS devices mounted on the vehicle as primary source of data for tracking purposes.
